Open Doors Weekend will let you have a look into some of the biggest and best construction projects in the UK. It’s your opportunity to discover what really goes on behind the scenes.

How can I get involved?

What can I see?

You’re going to see exactly what happens behind the scenes of some of the largest and most exciting projects in the UK. Depending on which sites you visit you could see massive cranes in action, steel girders going up; the most advanced construction machinery and much much more. What will I learn?

You’re going to learn all about how people create some of the most interesting buildings in the country and many of the surprising things that go on behind the scenes each and every day.

Open Doors Weekend will give you a unique opportunity to see first-hand the full range of great opportunities that a career in construction can offer. You will have the chance to go behind the scenes at some of the most interesting and high profile projects in the UK and talk to the people working on them who will be on hand to answer all of the questions you may have.

How can I get involved?

If you are over 16, use our online booking site to find your nearest site. Or if you would like your class to be involved ask your teacher or lecturer to sign up!

You can visit any and as many participating sites as you like; just use our online booking system to book a slot to avoid disappointment on the day.

What can I see?

You’re going to see exactly what happens behind the scenes at some of the largest and most exciting projects in the UK. Depending on which sites you chose to visit you could see; the most advanced construction machinery, a huge range of skills being demonstrated by a wide range of experts such as steel being erected, 3D modelling, and even the delicate refurbishment of period features.

What will I learn?

You’re going to learn about some of the most interesting processes that happen on construction sites every day. It will give you a better idea of the complexity, diversity and intricate detail involved in some of today’s most fascinating projects.

There is so much more to the construction industry than just building, from design and engineering through project planning to the archaeological digs that takes place. How can I get involved?

There is an online booking facility that will allow you to find out which projects are in your local community and book a slot that suits you and your class. We will always try to accommodate groups wherever we can, just ask.

What will we see?

You’re going to see exactly what happens behind the scenes at some of the largest and most exciting projects in the UK. What is Open Doors?

Open Doors gives you a unique opportunity to have a behind the scenes look at major construction sites across the country and the wonderful range of things that we do - over one weekend.

From 27th-28th September we would like to invite you to take a look into the diverse world of modern construction and meet the fantastic men and women who make it all happen. Whether you are thinking about work and a career, or just curious to see what goes on behind those big hoardings, Open Doors has something for you!

Organised by the UK Contractors Group (UKCG), the Scottish Contractors Group (SCG), the Industry Training Board and Sector Skills Council, CITB, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Considerate Constructors Scheme, Open Doors will give you a safe, exciting and unique look at construction.
